BigCity Promotions’ Festive Purchase Decision Report 2026 examines consumer spending intent, promotional triggers, data-sharing preferences and post-purchase engagement as brands prepare for the festive season.

Bengaluru, October 5, 2026: Consumers are maintaining a strong spending outlook for the 2026 festive season, with 91.6% expecting to spend the same or more than they did previously, according to BigCity Promotions’ latest Festive Purchase Decision Report.

Based on a survey of more than 1,000 consumers across India, the report examines how consumers plan their festive purchases, the factors influencing their decisions, the promotional formats that can affect purchase behaviour and how brands can build stronger engagement beyond the transaction.

While festive spending intent remains strong, the report highlights that the larger opportunity for brands lies in understanding how purchase decisions are made. This includes the extent to which purchases are planned in advance, the influence of decisions made closer to the point of purchase, and the role played by family and impulse in shaping final purchase choices.

Promotions emerge as another potential trigger for changes in consumer behaviour. According to the report, 40.3% of consumers say the right offer could encourage them to spend more or upgrade their purchase.

The report examines the role of different promotional formats, reward structures, perceived value and participation mechanics in determining whether consumers take action.

Consumer data is another area highlighted by the report. While 46.8% of consumers are comfortable sharing basic contact information, BigCity’s research looks at how this willingness changes when brands ask consumers to provide more detailed information.

The report also examines what marketers need to consider when attempting to build stronger first-party consumer relationships, particularly as brands seek greater access to consumer data.

The opportunity for brands also extends beyond the point of purchase. Around 92% of consumers surveyed said they are open to brands staying in touch with them after a purchase.

According to the report, this creates a significant post-purchase engagement window for brands. It examines what consumers expect from continued communication, what makes such communication relevant and how brands can use post-purchase engagement to extend a festive transaction into a longer-term consumer relationship.

Speaking on the launch of the report, Rahul Poral, Director – Marketing, BigCity Promotions, said, “Brands are no longer asking us just how to get consumers to participate. The bigger questions are: what will make them buy, spend more, come back, share data or stay engaged — and how do we make every promotional rupee work harder? From our experience, the strongest campaigns are built around a clear understanding of consumer behaviour and a defined action the brand wants to drive. Engagement then becomes the lever that moves that behaviour, not the objective by itself. This report brings together those questions with current consumer insights to help brands identify where promotions, rewards, data and post-purchase engagement can create greater impact and stronger ROI across the festive journey.”

Taken together, the findings connect consumer purchase behaviour with promotional strategy, data exchange and post-purchase engagement. The report aims to help marketers identify opportunities across different stages of the festive consumer journey, from influencing the initial purchase decision to maintaining the relationship after the transaction.
