Google is expanding Gemini Spark, its AI-powered digital agent capable of completing routine tasks on behalf of users, to Google AI Pro subscribers in India over the coming weeks as the company broadens access to its AI agent capabilities.

Unlike traditional AI assistants that primarily respond to prompts, Gemini Spark is designed to carry out multi-step tasks independently using Google's cloud infrastructure. The agent can continue working in the background even when a user's laptop is closed or phone is locked.

Powered by Gemini 3.6 Flash, Spark integrates with Google Workspace applications, including Gmail, Docs and Sheets, allowing users to automate a range of everyday workflows.

Users can choose whether to enable Spark and decide which Google services it can access. Google said the AI agent will seek approval before performing sensitive actions, such as sending emails or making purchases.

Among its capabilities, Spark can organise travel information from booking confirmation emails into Google Sheets, discover local events and add them to Google Calendar, and compile upcoming plans into a Google Doc. Users can also assign recurring tasks, such as checking the availability of indoor pickleball courts at a specific time while factoring in weather conditions.

For business users, the agent can review customer enquiries, draft responses recommending suitable services and pricing options, and save them as email drafts for review before sending.

Spark can also analyse a user's previous emails to generate a personalised writing style guide, which can be saved as a reusable skill for future correspondence.

The rollout is part of Google's broader push toward AI agents that can use connected tools and information to complete tasks autonomously, moving beyond conventional chat-based assistants that primarily answer user queries.
