Google has announced two artificial intelligence updates, rolling out its Pics image creation and editing tool to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Workspace business customers, while adding agentic video understanding capabilities to its latest Gemini models.

Google Pics expands to AI and Workspace users

Google Pics, an image creation and editing tool built on the company's Nano Banana model, will roll out over the coming weeks to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Workspace business customers.

The tool will be available as a standalone product and integrated into Google Workspace, initially through Docs and Slides. Integration with Drive is expected to follow in the coming weeks.

Pics allows users to generate and edit images using targeted prompts. Its capabilities include object segmentation, in-image text editing and translation, collaboration on images and generating multiple images from a single prompt.

Gemini gains agentic video understanding

Google has also introduced agentic video understanding across Gemini 3.7 Flash, 3.6 Flash and 3.5 Flash-Lite.

The capability is designed to improve how Gemini analyses video by allowing the models to search and inspect relevant sections across visual frames, audio and transcripts instead of processing an entire video uniformly.

According to Google, agentic video understanding can reduce analysis costs by up to 66% and token consumption by up to 88%, while improving accuracy by up to 7%.

The technology can support applications including sub-second moment retrieval, searches across long-form videos, anomaly detection and tracking or counting objects and actions over time.

Agentic video understanding is available for video uploads and YouTube videos through the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. Google said the feature uses standard Gemini API token pricing without an additional fee.

The capability will also roll out to users of the Gemini app across its Flash and Flash-Lite models. Google said it will also power YouTube's Ask YouTube feature on video watch pages in the coming months.

The updates further expand Google's efforts to embed generative and agentic AI capabilities across its consumer, developer and enterprise products.
