The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has directed online movie ticketing platforms and aggregators to display the accessibility features available for films before users book their tickets, following a Delhi High Court order aimed at improving cinema access for persons with disabilities.

In an advisory issued on July 9, the ministry asked platforms to introduce a dedicated mechanism on their websites and mobile applications that allows users to check whether a film offers accessibility features before completing a booking.

The advisory follows the Delhi High Court's February 19, 2026 order on improving accessibility in cinema exhibition for persons with disabilities.

Ticketing platforms have been asked to clearly indicate the availability of features such as Audio Description (AD), Closed Captions (CC) or Same Language Captioning (SLC), Indian Sign Language (ISL), and any other accessibility support offered for a film.

Where accessibility services are provided through an external application or digital platform, platforms must also identify the app or service through which viewers can access those features.

"The above information should be displayed in a clear, accurate and easily identifiable manner on the booking interface so that persons with disabilities are able to make an informed choice prior to booking tickets," the ministry said in the advisory.

The MIB has asked online ticketing platforms and aggregators to implement the changes within seven days, saying the move is intended to improve accessibility and make cinema-going more inclusive for persons with disabilities.
